Make a Hanging New Year's Ball

Celebrate 2026 with this hanging New Year's Eve Ball craft! 

In the United States, in 1907 the first New Year's Eve Ball was lowered in New York City. It was made of iron and wood and covered with one hundred light bulbs and weighed 700 pounds! The tradition was thought to have come from a 19th-century maritime tradition, "time balls" that were once dropped down poles in ports at noon. Ships used these balls to adjust their clocks to the local time.
