Program Description

Event Details

To celebrate Native American Heritage Month, you can make your own Totem Pole. Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities. It's celebrated in November each year.

Totem poles are tall, carved wooden structures that represent the history, culture, and beliefs of Indigenous peoples. They are typically made from red or yellow cedar, which doesn't rot easily and can last for many years. The carved and painted faces on a pole represented the owner's totem animal or bird. A totem was a person's mythical ancestor and might help in gaining power.
